The Sacrament of Baptism is a celebration that welcomes a person into the family of God and membership into the Church - the Body of Christ. It is the foundation of Christian life and beginning of a life with the Spirit. Baptism is also the door that gives one access to the other sacraments.
We receive Baptism only once. We believe it is the greatest gift a person can receive whether as an infant or adult. It frees us from sin and starts us on our life-long journey to know and love God. The Church encourages Baptism in infancy. Parents who take seriously their promise to raise their children in the faith that they live, give their children a good start in their life journey with God.
Baptism requires the parents’ willingness to support their child’s growth in the Catholic faith. It should not be something new parents do only because it’s a family tradition. The sacrament involves parents supporting their child’s faith growth through their own faith practice. Therefore, we reserve the sacrament for registered parishioners or those registered at another Catholic parish.
